Five Alive BassmastersThe top 16 anglers of Five Alive fished Manasquan reservoir on the weekend of October the 17th and 18th. Under less than optimum condition's, Five Alive's elite braved super high winds and heavy down pours in search of the green monsters that live in the club's favorite waterway. Fishing was tough but we are talking about some of the best bassmasters in Jersey so it was on! Weigh in was tense with everyone wondering if they would make the cut to Day 2 as only 8 of the 16 would make it. Sqweaking in at #8 was Rich McCrone Sr with 2.96. 7th went to Chris Press with 3.7 pounds. 6th place went to Andy Konka with 3.78 and Krafty Joe Kraft took 5th with 3.92. John Daut took 4th with 3.95 and 3rd went vto Rich McCrone Jr. with 4.47. Second place was myself, John Carey with 4.97 pounds.

First place with a nice lead was Randy Barron Sr with the only 5 fish limit and 9.37 pounds!! Nice job on a tough day! Notes for day #1: Defending Champ Randy Barron Jr would not repeat despit his never give up spirit and being endlessly back boated by his dad. Expect to see alot more of this guy in the winners circle. Nick Jack for the 2nd year in a row had boat trouble on day 1 but this year Ryan Gaynor was there to give Nick a ride. The 2 did not make the cut. Atsa shame. TnT was reduced to a firecracker that fizzled out. Our Angler Of The Year left the scene pre-weigh-in. Sources say he may have skunked and left in shame with the other half of TnT, Tommy Fariello.  Tommy has been dethroned as Master of the "Squan" after this major disappointment and failing to make day 2 for the second classic in a row. Even the best of us choke sometimes.

Day #2. The weather was even worse!!! Still we caught fish. Andy Konka landed a beauty...a 5.47 pound sweetie that put him at 9.25 pounds total for the 2 days. Randy had 1 but it put him at 10.58 pounds and sealed the deal as no one else was able to topple Randy's weight from day 1.  The Trophy stays in the Barron household! Congratualtions to Randy and all of the Five Alive Bassmasters on another great year.
